Warehouse Technician/Delivery Driver

JOB SUMMARY:

Participates in and oversees all activities related to preparing seed for delivery to the customer, which may include but is not limited to seed receiving, storage, packaging, sampling, and shipment of inventory. This position will participate in all warehouse activities at the Marina facility. This position will be expected to keep the work area, warehouse, and the facility clean. Participation in the maintenance of assigned equipment is expected. This role also will be responsible for the transfer deliveries between Sakata Facilities, delivering products to and from our distribution sites as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates and communicates work order/sales order requirements with the Material Planners, Customer Service Team, and warehouse personnel. Works with other company personnel to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Maintains accurate inventory by conducting process controls; reconciling variances; inputting data.
  • Prepares shipments and loads customer shipments out of the warehouse. Receives product going to and from 3rd party processors.
  • Responsible for the computer data entry transactions to support all activities within scope of position.
  • Keeps equipment operating by ensuring operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; requiring preventive maintenance; calling for repairs and working with the Maintenance personnel to ensure completion.
  • Performs and/or is responsible for the completion of the required daily, weekly, monthly, and annual procedures within the warehouse and the accurate filing of the required reporting involved.
  • Act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration.
  • Maintains workplace area by organizing floor space; adhering to storage design principles; recommending improvements.
  • Drive to deliver products to and from distribution sites on a regular basis, and/or as needed. Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections on vehicles used to transport.
  • Loading and unloading of trucks and trailers, and keep the vehicles clean and uncluttered. Inspect material to ensure it is loaded correctly and is secure.
  • Performing basic truck maintenance, such as refueling, doing visual inspections, and reporting potential issues.
  • Adherence to all traffic laws, DOT regulations and best practices for safety when delivering items.
  • Must have ability to work independently and manage time effectively, meeting delivery deadlines and following assigned delivery routes.
  • Completing any paperwork related to the deliveries and completing reports as required.
  • Possess ability to navigate and use GPS devices and other mapping applications.
  • Comply with SAI, State and Federal Safety requirements and promote company programs that can minimize injuries, lost time, product loss and damage. Ability to follow all safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment.
  • The Operations Manager may assign additional tasks as needed.
  • Follow all SAI quality assurance, policies and procedures as follows but not limited to this list:

o Be aware of and personally follow all SAI policies and procedures.

o Raise issues with Assistant Operations Manager when policies or procedures are not clear or not working.

o Keep Assistant Operations Manager informed of critical tasks not done.

o Keep Assistant Operations Manager informed of issues developing.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work with little oversight from Management. Must be reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability and willingness to work with others in a harmonious and productive fashion.
  • Must have ability to do accurate detailed work under time constraints and deadlines and must have ability to adjust to seasonal surges in workload.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must have ability to safely operate forklifts and other warehouse machinery.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

 

EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND:

  • Prior driving and delivery experience required.
  • Prior forklift operation experience.
  • Seed industry or agricultural background desirable.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must have ability to lift 55 pounds on a regular/daily basis.
  • Must be able to work with chemicals and other irritating substances.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment on a daily/regular basis.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in dusty, hot, and cold conditions.
  • Must be available to work overtime during busy times of year and work weekend duty as required.

  • Salary: $50,000- $54,800 per year
