Spring is here! Planning or already planted, we are going to be serving up some helpful tips and insight to give you the best success with SuperCal Petunias
Lets start with prepping your beds or containers!
Before you begin, consider the weather. Plant after the last frost of Spring - typically Late April to May, depending on your region. A good rule to follow is the wait until night temps are 55 or above before planting.
• Location, location, location! Will you be planting in the ground, or in containers? Be sure to select an area in full-sun - SuperCal love to bask!
• If planting in the ground, prepare your bed(s) by cleaning debris and weeding the area. If you have some snazzy planters, prep them by getting them in place and adding new soil to the top!
• Consider your soil condition. Heavy, clay-based soils retain excess moisture and may limit aeration of the roots, leading to a weak plant. If needed, amend soil with organic matter (peat, compost, etc).
• Determine how many plants you’ll need. For mass plantings in landscapes, SuperCal petunias should be planted at an average of 14” apart center to center. Be sure to check the plant tag for spacing recommendation, as some varieties require more or less spacing. For large planters, use 3 – 5 plants per pot for a full look.
Your bed is ready to plant, you have a plan! Tune in next week for selection and planting tips.
